At Oceanside Carpentry & Caretaking, we believe exceptional craftsmanship begins long before the first board is installed. It starts with listening, careful planning, choosing the right materials, and understanding how a home is expected to perform for decades—not just the day the project is finished.

We understand that inviting someone to work on your home requires trust. Our goal is to make every client feel confident—not only in the finished product, but throughout the entire building process. From the first conversation to the final walkthrough, we strive to communicate clearly, treat your home with respect, and deliver an experience that reflects the quality of the work itself.

We specialize in custom homes, luxury renovations, coastal restorations, exterior repairs, and outdoor living spaces throughout Downeast Maine. Living and building along the Maine coast presents unique challenges. Wind, salt air, moisture, and harsh winters demand thoughtful design and quality workmanship if a home is going to stand the test of time.

Our philosophy is simple: Build Better. Build to Last.

We intentionally say Build Better because we believe great builders are always learning. Building science continues to evolve. New materials are introduced. Our climate changes. As our understanding of how homes perform improves, so should the way we build them. That's why we invest in continuing education, study modern building practices, and continually refine our methods.

We also believe quality isn't measured only by the finished product. It is measured by communication, professionalism, honesty, cleanliness, and treating every home with the respect it deserves.

Every project becomes an opportunity to improve—not just for the homeowner we're serving today, but for every project that follows.

Whether we're restoring a century-old coastal home, repairing hidden structural damage, creating an outdoor living space for generations of memories, or building something entirely new, our goal remains the same: deliver craftsmanship that looks beautiful, performs exceptionally, and serves families for years to come.

Because when all is said and done, we're not just building homes—we're helping people protect one of their most valuable investments and creating places where life happens.

Meet the Owners

Dylan

Dylan grew up surrounded by construction. From an early age, he was on site after school and weekends learning the drywall trade. He quickly found his true passion was to build and restore homes, more than just one specific trade. That same curiosity has shaped the way he approaches construction today. Dylan is especially gifted at finding practical solutions to difficult problems, including structural challenges and repairs that others may hesitate to take on. He is known for his loyalty, professionalism, strong leadership, sense of humor, and determination to get things done.

Dylan's approach helped shape the philosophy that continues to guide Oceanside today.

Whether Oceanside is beginning a new custom home or correcting work that was not built properly the first time, Dylan's standard remains the same: source the right materials, understand the problem fully, and build for lasting performance.

Dylan understands that climates change, building science advances, and new materials are introduced. He remains committed to continuing education and refining the way Oceanside builds so that each project benefits from what has been learned.

Detrina

Detrina grew up surrounded by family-run businesses, learning early how much trust, communication, and personal connection matter. She worked at the front of her family's bakery, alongside her mother in a neuromuscular therapy practice, and within family-operated cleaning businesses serving both homes and offices. Those experiences taught her to listen closely, understand what matters to people, and recognize the care required to deliver a finished space that is truly ready for its owners.

At Oceanside, Detrina leads the client experience and helps guide business operations, keeping communication clear, details organized, and projects moving forward. She genuinely enjoys getting to know homeowners—not only what they hope to create, but why the project matters to them.

While Dylan establishes the construction direction and standards behind the work, Detrina helps carry the client relationship through the process. She works to ensure homeowners feel heard, informed, and confident—and that, when the work is complete, their space is ready for them to step into and begin enjoying.

Together, their strengths create a connection between the work happening on the jobsite and the experience surrounding it.

A Company Built to Last

Although Oceanside is led by a husband-and-wife ownership team, the company has been built to stand on more than two people. Our standards are carried forward through skilled crews, trusted trade partners, clear systems, and strong leadership—all working toward the same result. Clients are not hiring one individual; they are choosing a company with structure, accountability, and a shared commitment to quality.

This allows Oceanside to carry forward the craftsmanship, integrity, and personal care on which the company was founded.

The Right Fit

We work best with homeowners who value thoughtful planning, honest communication, durable materials, and long-term value. Our best clients are not making their decision on price alone. They are looking for a company they can trust to think ahead, address challenges honestly, and build with the future in mind. They understand that quality construction requires the right people, materials, planning, and investment.

In return, we bring leadership, experience, and genuine respect for their home, their goals, and the responsibility they have placed in our hands.

The Oceanside Standard

From structural repairs to complete exterior transformations and custom homes, we build for durability, beauty, performance, and long-term value. We do not believe in taking shortcuts simply because the right approach may require more work. Every decision—from materials and planning to construction and finishing—is guided by the same standard: Build better. Build to last.
